Dssolvr May 5 Pints and Pottery: Dip Bowls
Date: Monday, May 5, 2025, 6pm-8:30pm (Please arrive early if you plan to order a beverage before class. Plan to end on time.)
Location: Dssolvr Brewery, 630 Rigsbee Ave, Durham, NC 27701
Enjoy a beverage at Dssolvr Brewery in Durham, NC while you design and sculpt your own Molcajete-style bowls! “Molcajete” is the Spanish word for mortar and pestle. The name itself comes from the Aztec words meaning “seasoning” and “bowl.” These bowls are characterized by their tripod feet.
You will be provided with cream white clay and instruction to make 2 tripod dip bowls perfect for any of your favorite dips from salsa to hummus to ranch and more!
At the end of class, I will take your dishes to my studio to be fired, waxed, clear-glazed, and fired again. There are multiple color choices for your glazes, but the jade and cobalt options are shown here. They will be dishwasher and microwave-safe. Your dishes will be available for pick-up at Dssolvr in Durham once they are finished.
***Very important*** Pottery is a bit of science and a lot of physics, and random things happen in the creation process. I will try my absolute best to care for your creation from start to finish, but strange things happen to artwork in the kiln, such as cracking and warping. I will explain how you can likely prevent them while we are sculpting, but I’m always surprised by what clay will do. By signing up for this class, you accept the fate of the kiln gods, and there are no refunds or replacements for projects that do not survive the process.
Your dishes will be available for pick-up at Dssolvr in Durham once they are finished. Please choose local pickup/delivery for the shipping option to avoid shipping fees.
